Now, I have to tell you that large events are always a challenge to put together, but the excitement, the involvement from volunteers and leaders is just exhilarating.   Everyone working together for a common cause is priceless!

In planning the Community Bash we had initially set out to have a nice event to promote our Project Freedom campaign in the fall but as we talked about it the event blossomed into what it is now.

Saturday morning we are kicking the Community Bash off with our 5k Run+Walk Against Hunger along with the Pancake & Sausage Breakfast cooked by our very own Mark Fehr and Steve Weers.  You will not be disappointed!  The race registration opens up at 6:30-7:15am and the race begins at 7:30am.  Breakfast will begin serving at 7:30 and will remain available until 10:00am.

So here is where we are taking a chance. . .instead of having the event continue on campus throughout the day we figured we give everyone some time to do the things they needed to do such as mowing the grass, going to the grocery store, taking a nap, etc.  Then things get moving again beginning at 4:00pm where we will have a variety of things for the family to do such as, Fire Truck Demonstrations, K9 Unit, Inflatables, Corn-hole Tournament, Life Flight, OSF, Food(Michael’s Italian Feast), Live Music, Campus Tours and Movies on the Lawn. We understand that it is a risk separating the two events, but life is so busy and expecting people to stay the entire day would have taken just much more than we could provide, especially for our first Community Bash.

So you may be wondering what the schedule of events is for the day.  Well we have put together a tentative time-table for the events and it is listed below:

  • 6:30 – 10:00am (5k Race & Pancake Breakfast)
  • 4:00 – (Afternoon Events Begin)
*Car Show(Cruise In) Runs from 4:00 – 8:00pm (Free Event, No Contest, Just Bring Your Car to Show Off!)
  • 4:30 – Corn-hole Tournament Begins
  • 4:45 – Fire Demonstration Begins (Jaws of Life & Car Fire)
  • 5:30 – K9 Police Demonstration
  • 6:00 – Culture Shift Band
  • 6:30 – Great Oaks Band
  • 8:00 – Movies on the Lawn

*Life Flight will be arriving between 5:00 – 7:00pm

So we are hoping that you can make it to the Community Bash.  We feel like it is a great opportunity to have something here in Germantown Hills for the community, to provide an avenue where we can connect as a community and build new friendships.

With that said, have a great day, hope to see you here at Great Oaks Community Church Saturday, August 27!
